In honor of California Wine Month, we’re sitting down with different winemakers throughout Livermore Valley and asking them to tell us about themselves, the harvest and of course, their favorite wines! Today we’re sitting down with the winemakers from Charles R Vineyards.
Did you know that Livermore Valley is one of the oldest wine regions in California? To kick off California Wine Month, let’s take a look into the history of the valley and how some of your favorite varietals came to the United States. It’s the most exciting time of the year! The grapes are starting to be harvested off the vines, ready to create the newest vintages of our favorite wines. Of course, we have to wait a few years to see what these 2017 grapes will deliver, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a little wine in the meantime. The best way to celebrate the harvest? By raising a glass at Harvest Wine Celebration on September 3rd!

Wednesday marks the official day of summer. I know, between the weather and the kids finishing up school it already feels like summer, but Wednesday makes it official. Summer highlights some of my favorite things: getting outside, spending time with friends, sipping wine while watching the sun set. I’m kicking off the first official day of summer at the San Francisco Premium Outlets. From 5-8pm you can sip wine and shop with increased discounts for those participating in Summer Sip & Shop.
We all have our favorite wines and the reasons we love them. In honor of Chardonnay Week, we gathered seven wineries to hear their reasons as to why they love Chardonnay. Whether or not you agree with them, they all agree that you should taste as many different versions to determine which is your favorite. But until you do, here are their thoughts on Chardonnay:
Starting on Saturday, May 20th wineries will be celebrating Chardonnay with special events, discounts and more. Don’t miss this great opportunity to celebrate California’s most widely planted grape!
This spring is so different from last year! The hills are a beautiful green, we’ve enjoyed a few summer-like days, and no one is frantically begging and pleading with the skies to bring us rain. The vineyards are coming alive as well as we see the first signs of bud break. What is bud break? It’s when the dormant bud opens and the shoot begins to grow. Essentially, it’s our first sight of this year’s crop.
There’s a new event on March 25th and 26th and I for one could not be more thrilled. Barrels, Bottles & Brews is replacing Barrel Tasting Weekend because the wineries invited some of their friends to join in the festivities. If you didn’t know, Livermore Valley has seen an influx of breweries and distilleries over the past few years and some winemakers have even tried their hand at brewing and distilling. Barrels, Bottles & Brews will be two days where you can get outside, enjoy the spring weather and sample wines, beers and spirits.
